Entropy.
Cast Aluminium
We are a momentary by-product of the laws of physics – an exquisitely ordered assemblage of particles, destined towards increasing entropy.
This self portrait reflects and existential quest for authenticity, exploring the true nature of our precarious and brief physical reality – the fundamental and irrefutable notion that disorder is always on the rise, and that as energy disperses, decay and disaggregation are inevitable.
The piece is a literal reference to the increasing agitation of once ordered molecular structures, manifested via a dreamlike sequence of interconnecting parts. Hints of the feminine and the architectural provide a subtle homage to the more superficial yet essential aspects of the designer’s identity. It is a compression of a temporal timeline, revealing the beauty and the texture that emerges from both a singular and shared human experience of existence – of letting go in the face of ever increasing chaos.
This piece was presented as a part of Friends and Associates’ group exhibition, Self Portrait, for NGV Melbourne Design Week 2022
